
Dr. Stager Jr.’s commitment to eye care extends beyond his practice. In 2008, he co-founded One World One Vision, a nonprofit dedicated to reducing vision loss caused by strabismus and pediatric cataracts in underserved communities. His international medical work has taken him to Kenya, Panama, Vietnam, India, Morocco, Argentina, and other countries.
Closer to home, Dr. Stager supports research and education through the Retina Foundation of the Southwest and an annual lectureship in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus. He has also supported organizations such as Make-A-Wish, Heroes for Children, Vogel Alcove, Turtle Creek Manor, and the Cattle Baron’s Ball.

One World One Vision works to reduce vision loss caused by strabismus and pediatric cataracts, especially in countries where specialized treatment is difficult to access. Its mission focuses on treating patients while training local doctors and healthcare teams to provide safe, lasting care within their own communities. Its work reflects the values of compassion, education, collaboration, accessibility, and sustainable service. The organization estimates that more than 70 million people worldwide need surgical care for strabismus or childhood cataracts.


Lighthouse for Christ Mission provides medical and surgical eye care through the Lighthouse Eye Centre in Mombasa, Kenya, regardless of a patient’s ability to pay. Its mission is to heal physical and spiritual blindness in East Africa through accessible eye care, Christian service, education, and community support. Its core values center on faith, compassion, service, education, and dignity. The organization reports serving more than 30,000 patients each year.
The Retina Foundation of the Southwest is a Dallas-based research organization dedicated to preventing vision loss and restoring sight through innovative research and treatment. Its work includes pediatric eye conditions, inherited retinal diseases, and age-related macular degeneration, with discoveries translated into practical treatments for patients. Its values include patient-centered care, scientific integrity, compassion, innovation, education, leadership, and responsible stewardship. During its 2021–2022 reporting period, its laboratories participated in more than 60 clinical research studies.
